Palestinian doctor Hossam Abu Safiya suffers rib fractures after violent assaults in Israeli Rakefet prison

Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamel Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, was arrested by Israeli forces in December while working at the hospital. He has been detained in the Israeli Rakefet prison.

The Prisoners' Media Office reports that he has sustained multiple rib fractures and other injuries after repeated beatings with batons, electric shocks, tear‑gas, rubber bullets and attacks by police dogs. Despite pre‑existing heart disease and high blood pressure, prison authorities have limited his treatment to painkillers, and he spent 21 days in solitary confinement under harsh conditions. The office describes the treatment as a crime and urges urgent international action to stop the assaults and secure his release.
