Palestinian Ministry reports over 800 teachers killed since October 2023 war
The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported that more than 800 teachers have been killed since the start of the war on October 7, 2023. Additionally, over 3,300 teachers have been injured, and more than 170 have been detained under harsh conditions.
In a statement released on World Teachers' Day, the Ministry highlighted the extreme challenges faced by educators in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. In Gaza, teachers have attempted to maintain education by converting tents and displacement centers into makeshift classrooms. In the West Bank, educators face movement restrictions due to checkpoints in areas such as Masafer Yatta, Al-Mughayyir, and Area C, alongside economic instability caused by the withholding of clearance revenues.
The Ministry praised the resilience of Palestinian teachers, noting their use of technological solutions and educational initiatives to ensure the continuity of learning despite the ongoing conflict and blockade.
