Palestinian Prisoner Club reports 39 journalists detained in Israeli prisons
The Palestinian Prisoner Club reported on Thursday that the number of Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli prisons has risen to 39. This increase follows the arrest of journalist Alaa al-Rimawi from Ramallah early this morning.
According to the Club, all 39 detainees were arrested following the start of the war on Gaza. Of these, 21 are currently held under administrative detention without formal charges or trials. Recent developments include the transfer of journalists Muath Amarna and Sabri Jibrin to administrative detention for four months, and the extension of journalist Nika Hamed’s detention until September 23.
The Club noted that five female journalists are among those detained. One journalist, Bushra al-Taweel, was reportedly moved from Damon Prison to isolation in Ramla Prison, with no current information regarding her detention conditions. The organization stated that targeting of journalists includes not only arrests but also isolation, mistreatment, torture, harsh detention conditions, and denial of medical treatment, which restricts their ability to document events and violations.
