Palestinian researchers arrive in Italy and San Marino
In Italy, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has welcomed Mohammed Hajjaj, a Palestinian doctoral student evacuated from the Gaza Strip. His arrival is part of the European Safe project (Supporting At-risk Researchers with Fellowships in Europe), a pilot initiative funded by the European Union and coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project aims to protect researchers at risk and ensure academic continuity. Hajjaj will pursue research in humanities at the university's Department of Linguistic and Cultural Studies.
In San Marino, political counselor Matteo Zeppa addressed recent discussions regarding Palestinian arrivals. Zeppa clarified that only two Palestinian students have arrived in the country via the University, disputing claims that thirty individuals were expected. He criticized the political narrative surrounding the situation, suggesting it relies on fear, and emphasized that San Marino should avoid isolation.
