Palestinian sports community suffers 1,007 deaths in Gaza

The Palestinian Football Association reported on Tuesday that the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,007 members of the Palestinian sports community since October 7, 2023.

The casualties include 565 individuals associated with the Football Association, 317 from various Olympic associations, and 125 members of the Palestinian Scout and Guide Association. The deceased comprise 962 men and 45 women, with five individuals still reported missing.

Notable victims mentioned include national team player Mohammed Barakat, Olympic player and coach Hani Al-Masdar, and national team player Suleiman Al-Obeid. The report highlights the total collapse of sports infrastructure and the disruption of talent development in the region.
