Palestinian teacher establishes free school for displaced children in Egypt
In El-Arish, Egypt, a Palestinian teacher named Hadeel Zourob has established the only Palestinian school in North Sinai to serve children displaced by the Israel-Hamas war. Zourob, who fled Gaza after the conflict began in October 2023, founded the educational center to address the lack of schooling available to Palestinian refugees in the region.
What began as a small group of students in a rented building has grown into a free school serving nearly 400 students between the ages of six and 18. The initiative is supported by the Misr El Kheir Foundation, one of Egypt’s largest charitable organizations, which helps cover rent and school supplies. The school provides a vital educational resource for families living in the coastal city, located approximately 44 kilometers from the Gaza border.
