Palinuro: Man dies after sudden medical emergency in sea

A 35-year-old man, Lorenzo Fortunato, died after suffering a sudden medical emergency while in the water at the Saline beach in Palinuro. The man, originally from Buonabitacolo and a resident of Sanza, was vacationing with his wife and two children when the incident occurred.

Staff from the nearby Sunset Beach lido provided immediate first aid and attempted resuscitation efforts before emergency medical services (118) arrived. Despite prolonged attempts by medical personnel to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities, including the Coast Guard, Carabinieri, and Local Police, attended the scene to investigate the circumstances of the death. Preliminary reports indicate the man suffered from epilepsy, though medical examiners will determine if this condition contributed to the fatal event. An external examination of the body is scheduled at the Sapri hospital morgue.
