Palio di Siena night trials kick off in Piazza del Campo

The first day of regulated night trials for the historic Palio di Siena was held in Piazza del Campo on Saturday, 27 June 2026. Photographs captured the illuminated horses and riders as they ran through the square before sunrise, marking the opening of the preparatory sessions for the famous horse race. Participants and officials noted the unique atmosphere of the nighttime rehearsals, which are part of the traditional schedule leading up to the main event.

The trials are intended to ensure safety and coordination among the ten city districts (contrade) before the competitive Palio takes place later in the summer.
