Palma senior residences start intergenerational and flamenco therapy initiatives
In Palma, the Montesión School and the Fontsana Son Armadams senior residence, coordinated with the Rotary Club, have launched an intergenerational meeting project. Students from the first year of Bachillerato spend time with older residents through walks, conversations, games, music and cognitive‑stimulation exercises, aiming to strengthen community ties, emotional wellbeing and empathy across generations.
Separately, the Albertia Mirasierra residence, in partnership with the Fundación Mémora, introduced a flamenco‑therapy program. Sessions combine music, clapping, rhythm and adapted movement to foster emotional expression, improve mood, reduce apathy and anxiety, and stimulate memory in participants, especially those with cognitive decline. Both initiatives reflect a growing emphasis on non‑pharmacological, culturally‑based therapies to enhance senior care.
