Palomas–Columbus border port to reopen for livestock exports on October 26
The Palomas–Columbus border crossing between Chihuahua, Mexico, and New Mexico, USA, is scheduled to reopen for livestock exports on October 26. This follows notification from United States authorities and marks a significant step in recovering live cattle exports from the state of Chihuahua.
Álvaro Iván Bustillos Fuentes, president of the Unión Ganadera Regional de Chihuahua (UGRCH), stated that the organization is preparing quarantine facilities and coordinating services for producers. The initial phase of the reopening will involve a flow of 750 head of cattle. Bustillos Fuentes has encouraged producers in 'Block One' with tested and castrated animals to begin scheduling their crossings.
While preparations are underway, the UGRCH is awaiting official formal communication between Mexico’s SENASICA and the United States’ USDA to finalize the reopening. Additionally, the organization is working to progressively increase flows at the Santa Teresa–San Jerónimo quarantine station.
