Pamplona City Council condemns violence following Vito Quiles visit

The Pamplona City Council has approved a declaration condemning the violent acts that occurred on October 15, 2026, during a visit by agitator Vito Quiles. The proposal, presented by the PSN and supported by Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin, follows disturbances near Yamaguchi Park involving the overturning and burning of containers, the throwing of objects, and clashes with police.

While the text condemns the violence, it also includes a rejection of any actions that contribute to deteriorating coexistence through “provocation or confrontation.” This phrasing has sparked debate by shifting focus toward Quiles’s behavior as a potential catalyst for the unrest. The declaration also expressed support for the Municipal, Foral, and National Police, as well as local residents and businesses affected by the incidents, while rejecting “discourses and attitudes of hate and intolerance.”
