PAN loses local electoral registration in Coahuila

The National Action Party (PAN) has lost its local electoral registration in Coahuila, Mexico, after failing to meet the minimum voting threshold required by law. In the recent election to renew the state congress, the party received 27,819 votes, representing only 2.29 percent of the total. This falls below the 3 percent minimum required to maintain its status as a local political force.

As a result of this electoral defeat, the National Executive Committee of the PAN has informed the Coahuila State Steering Committee of its dissolution, along with the dissolution of the State Permanent Commission. The loss of registration means the party will have no legislative representation in the state congress for the first time in approximately 45 years.

Following the dissolution, the national leadership is expected to appoint a provisional directive commission to oversee the reconstruction of the party in the state over a period of up to three years. The decline in support is notable compared to the 2023 gubernatorial election, where the PAN participated in an alliance with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and contributed approximately 6 percent of the total votes.
