PAN electoral registration loss in Coahuila

Overview

The National Action Party (PAN) has lost its local electoral registration in Coahuila, Mexico, after failing to meet the 3 percent minimum voting threshold required by law. In recent elections to renew the state congress, the party received 27,819 votes, or approximately 2.29 percent of the total.

This result marks the first time in roughly 45 years that the party will have no legislative representation in the state congress. The decline in support is noted in comparison to the 2023 gubernatorial election, where the PAN participated in an alliance and secured approximately 6 percent of the vote.

In response to the loss of registration and the subsequent loss of local public financing, the PAN National Executive Committee has initiated the dissolution of the state leadership and the Permanent Commission. The national leadership intends to replace the current structure with a provisional directive commission or delegation to oversee the reconstruction of the party in the state for a period of up to three years.
