PAN party navigates reelection bids and electoral legal victories
The National Action Party (PAN) is navigating internal political strategies and legal victories ahead of the 2027 elections in Mexico. In Puebla, PAN parliamentary leader Marcos Castro Martínez revealed that five local deputies—including himself, Susana Riestra Piña, Rafael Micalco Méndez, Celia Bonaga Ruiz, and Luana Armida Amador Vallejo—are seeking reelection. Castro Martínez has urged the state leadership to establish clear rules and timelines for internal contests to prevent political stagnation and ensure fair competition against rival parties like Morena.
On a federal level, the PAN secured a legal victory regarding ballot integrity. The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary ruled in favor of the party in a challenge against National Electoral Institute (INE) guidelines. The court determined that any ballot lacking the necessary fold marks required to be inserted into an urn must be considered invalid. This ruling prevents district councils from using discretionary voting to decide whether to count improperly folded ballots, a measure the PAN claims protects the certainty of electoral results.
