Panama and Croatia clash in decisive World Cup 2026 group match in Toronto

Panama and Croatia will meet on 23 June 2026 at Toronto’s BMO Field (Toronto Stadium) in the second round of Group L. Both sides arrived without points after opening‑day defeats – Panama lost 1‑0 to Ghana and Croatia fell 4‑2 to England.

Panama coach Thomas Christiansen said his players are “convinced we can win” but stressed they need order, concentration and to avoid the mistakes that cost them against Ghana. He confirmed that midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla will miss the match because of a lingering muscle injury, describing him as a “key player” for the team.

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalić announced tactical tweaks, reverting to a 4‑2‑3‑1 formation and making personnel changes in defence and attack. Luka Modrić will start his 200th international appearance, while striker Ante Budimir is expected to lead the line.

The result is crucial for survival: the winner is likely to advance to the knockout stage, while the loser will need a favorable result in the other Group L game to stay in contention. The encounter also pits Panama’s “Coco” Carrasquilla, who has spoken of his dream to face his idol Luka Modrić, against the Croatian veterans.
