Panama implements unified building assessments and housing construction after earthquake

Following the earthquake on October 9, Panama’s Technical Board of Engineering and Architecture has introduced a mandatory, unified form to standardize building inspections. To ensure public clarity, the assessment results will use a color-coded system: green for safe entry, yellow for caution, and red for restricted access. This initiative aims to provide clear safety status for structures and evaluate how well buildings comply with the Panama Structural Regulation.

Parallel to these inspections, the government reported that over 31 homes are currently under construction in affected provinces. These include nine houses in Veraguas (Soná and Río de Jesús), two in Los Santos (Las Tablas), six in Herrera (Chitré), and seven in Chiriquí (San Félix). Authorities are conducting technical evaluations to determine which homes can be repaired and which require total reconstruction.

Citizens with uninspected properties are encouraged to report them via the official website Panama Conecta or by calling 520-4426 to ensure technical teams can provide necessary follow-up.
