Panama offers to host US-Cuba dialogue
Panama has officially offered to serve as a neutral venue for potential diplomatic dialogue between the United States and Cuba. Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez stated that the country’s history of understanding could provide a space for such conversations to promote international cooperation and de-escalation.
The proposal follows a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the United States embargo against Cuba. The non-binding resolution received 130 votes in favor, 17 against, and 25 abstentions. While offering its territory for talks, Panama also urged Cuban authorities to strengthen democratic institutions, ensure respect for human rights, and promote citizen participation.
