Panama pursues diplomatic efforts for seven citizens detained in Cuba

The Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is conducting diplomatic and consular efforts to assist seven Panamanian citizens currently detained in Cuba. Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez met with the families of the detainees to provide updates on the government's actions and to emphasize that while Panama must respect Cuban laws and judicial procedures, it remains committed to protecting the rights of its nationals.

As part of these efforts, the Panamanian government is evaluating legal alternatives to allow the citizens to serve any potential sentences in Panama. This process would require coordination between both nations and adherence to Cuban legislation and applicable legal instruments to ensure the detainees can be near their families if convicted.
