Panama and Honduras report updates on dengue trends and vaccination

Panama has reported a 32.4% decrease in cumulative dengue cases through epidemiological week 32 of 2026, with 6,616 cases recorded compared to 9,791 during the same period in 2025. The Ministry of Health (Minsa) noted that weekly hospitalizations have also dropped by more than 50%. The Metropolitan Region remains the area with the highest number of infections, followed by Colón. To date, 16 deaths have been recorded in the country.

In Honduras, the Ministry of Health has expanded its dengue vaccination campaign to all 20 sanitary regions nationwide. Initially focused on high-incidence areas like Cortés and the Central District, the distribution was widened due to emerging cases in other regions and lower-than-expected uptake in the initial zones. The vaccination program targets children and adolescents aged 6 to 16 and requires a two-dose schedule administered three months apart. Authorities currently have over 100,000 doses available to combat the four serotypes of the virus.
