Dengue trends and vaccination in Central America

Overview

In Panama, health authorities reported a 32.4% decrease in cumulative dengue cases through epidemiological week 32 of 2026, with 6,616 cases recorded compared to 9,791 during the same period in 2025. Weekly hospitalizations in the country have also dropped by more than 50%. The Metropolitan Region and Colón have been identified as areas with high infection numbers, and 16 deaths have been recorded to date.

In Honduras, the Ministry of Health has expanded its dengue vaccination campaign to all 20 sanitary regions nationwide. This expansion follows the emergence of cases in new areas and lower-than-expected uptake in initial high-incidence zones like Cortés and the Central District. The program targets children and adolescents aged 6 to 16 using a two-dose schedule, with over 100,000 doses available to address the four serotypes of the virus.
