Panama weather alerts as rain and wind cause damage in Colón and Chiriquí

Severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, has caused widespread damage across several regions in Panama. The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) is actively monitoring the situation and deploying response teams to manage the impact of these natural events.

In the province of Colón, continuous rainfall has led to landslides and flooding. In the Villa del Caribe community, a landslide partially affected three residences and caused sediment to enter another. In El Nazareno, four homes were affected, while in La Resurrección, ten houses experienced flooding due to a creek overflowing in the Los Cuatro Altos sector. Satellite imagery from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA) indicates that these rains are expected to persist.

Simultaneously, the provinces of Chiriquí and the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca have been hit by strong winds and rain. Preliminary assessments report 29 incidents, including 17 obstructed roads, nine damaged structures, and three roof collapses. Fallen trees have blocked major and secondary roads in districts such as Remedios, San Félix, David, Alanje, and Bugaba, as well as border areas. Response teams are currently working to clear debris and restore mobility.
