In early September 2026, instability driven by Tropical Wave No. 43 prompted warnings for moderate to heavy rainfall, potential flooding, and landslides through September 7. By September 7, severe weather had caused widespread damage. In the province of Colón, continuous rainfall led to landslides and flooding in communities such as Villa del Caribe, El Nazareno, and La Resurrección, where ten houses experienced flooding due to an overflowing creek. Simultaneously, the provinces of Chiriquí and the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca were hit by strong winds and rain. Preliminary assessments reported 29 incidents, including nine damaged structures, three roof collapses, and 17 obstructed roads. On October 2, 2026, Sinaproc issued advisories for the Pacific coast, warning of increased winds and waves reaching up to 1.5 meters through October 4, linked to a developing Central American Gyre affecting the Gulf of Panama, the Gulf of Chiriquí, and southern Veraguas and Los Santos. By October 4, IMHPA and Sinaproc maintained warnings for flash floods, river rises, landslides, and waterlogging. Forecasters continue to warn of flash floods and landslides caused by persistent rainfall and thunderstorms.
