Panama's National Handicrafts Fair draws record 677 artisans and aims for 50,000 visitors

The 46th edition of Panama's National Handicrafts Fair runs for five days in 2026, featuring a historic 677 artisans from every province and comarca. Minister of Culture María Eugenia Herrera said the fair generated an economic impact of $1.2‑$1.5 million last year and the goal is to exceed 50,000 visitors this year.

The event showcases ceramics, chaquiras, tagua carvings, traditional footwear (cutarras), textiles, molas, jewelry and a gastronomic corridor. A dedicated indigenous pavilion highlights Emberá‑Wounaan crafts such as parumas and hand‑made accessories. Over 290 folk groups and more than 5,000 dancers perform, while new spaces like the City of the Arts, the Center of Art and Culture of Colón, and an "Experiences Artisanal" area allow master artisans to share techniques.

Entrepreneurial stalls also feature innovative designs, including earrings made from fish scales and modernized tembleques, reflecting a blend of tradition and contemporary creativity.
