Panama National Handicrafts Fair 2026
Entities: Panama · Atlapa Convention Center · Maruja Herrera · María Eugenia Herrera · Feria Nacional de Artesanías
Overview
The 46th Panama National Handicrafts Fair opened at the Atlapa Convention Center in late July 2026, featuring a record 677 artisans from every province and comarca. Organisers highlighted an expanded program that includes a dedicated indigenous pavilion, new exhibition spaces such as the City of the Arts and the Center of Art and Culture of Colón, and an "Experiences Artisanal" area where master craftsmen demonstrate techniques.
Minister of Culture María Eugenia Herrera noted that the fair generated an economic impact of $1.2‑$1.5 million the previous year and set a target of attracting more than 50,000 visitors. The event showcases a wide range of traditional items—ceramics, chaquiras, tagua carvings, cutarras, textiles, molas, jewelry—and innovative designs like earrings made from fish scales. Over 290 folk groups and more than 5,000 dancers perform, reinforcing the fair’s role in promoting Panama’s multicultural heritage and supporting the artisanal sector.
The fair runs through early August, aiming to boost artisans’ incomes, strengthen the national economy, and raise Panama’s cultural profile both domestically and abroad.
