Panathinaikos responds to Olympiacos regarding legal dispute

Panathinaikos BC has issued a formal response to Olympiacos BC following a judicial decision regarding a lawsuit filed by Despoina Giannakopoulou. The legal matter stems from insulting chants directed at Giannakopoulou during a game in June 2025.

Panathinaikos stated that the prosecutor accepted as fact both the occurrence of the insults and the fact that Olympiacos subsequently reposted them on their official social media pages. While the prosecutor did not find evidence of defamatory intent by Olympiacos in posting the video, an investigation has been opened to identify the individuals responsible for the original chants.

Panathinaikos criticized Olympiacos for issuing what they termed ‘inaccurate and ridiculous announcements’ instead of offering an apology for the incident.
