Panathinaikos stadium build and 5,000‑acre Votanikos overhaul progress in Athens

Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced the launch of an international architectural competition to design the redevelopment of about 5,000 hectares surrounding the new Panathinaikos stadium in the Votanikos area of Athens. He visited the construction site, where the stadium and related facilities are being built, and noted that the stadium is on track for completion in the summer of 2027 and will host the club’s home matches for the 2027‑28 season.

The Votanikos project also includes extensive urban renewal measures, adding more than 300 hectares of green and public spaces, new sports amenities such as a closed gym, training center, and an Olympic‑size open‑air swimming pool, and the Votanikos Business Park – a mixed‑use complex of about 63,000 sqm slated for delivery in the second half of 2028.
