Panathinaikos stadium construction moves forward in Botanikos, Athens

Greek Minister of Infrastructure Christos Dimas and Athens mayor Haris Doukas visited the Botanikos construction site on 16 July. They inspected the progress of Panathinaikos’ new stadium, noting that the first steel supports for the roof have arrived from Italy and that the eastern and western stands are rising steadily. Dimas told ERT that the project is on schedule and that “the goal for Panathinaikos to play here next year is feasible and I am sure it will be achieved,” adding that the venue will host up to 40,000 spectators and require coordinated traffic measures. Doukas emphasized daily monitoring, the completion of the western stand, and the aim for the team to move into the stadium for the 2027‑28 season, describing the site’s transformation into a “green neighbourhood” after extensive clean‑up. The joint effort involves the state, the club, the amateur side and local banks, with a target to finish the roof by early September and the whole stadium by February 2028.
