Panathinaikos to move to new Botaniko stadium in August 2027, Alafouzos unveils site plan for historic Leforou
Club owner Giannis Alafouzos said Panathinaikos will relocate to its new stadium in the Botaniko area in August 2027. Construction is nearing completion, with the external shell finishing soon and the roof expected by September. The new venue will replace the historic Leforou ground, which the club will keep alive through a redevelopment concept that includes a park, football and basketball fields, and an open‑air pool. A scale model of the proposal was shown, but implementation will require approval from the State and the Athens municipality.
Alafouzos highlighted that the Botaniko stadium will be unique in Greece, offering fans close proximity to the pitch and meeting UEFA standards. He acknowledged past mistakes in coaching appointments but expressed optimism that the new facilities will support better on‑field performance and boost match‑day revenues, recalling the large crowds previously drawn at Leforou.
