Pancreatic Cancer Advances: Vaccine Shows Safety and Drug Doubles Survival

An early‑stage clinical trial of the experimental vaccine mKRAS‑VAX, which targets mutant KRAS proteins, reported that the vaccine was safe and generated strong, durable T‑cell responses in high‑risk volunteers. None of the participants developed pancreatic cancer during follow‑up, and pancreatic cysts were more likely to shrink or disappear compared with an untreated group.

Separately, the KRAS‑targeting oral drug daraxonrasib, classified as a RAS(ON) inhibitor, doubled median overall survival for patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who had progressed after standard chemotherapy, extending survival from 6.7 months to 13.2 months in clinical trials. The drug works by binding KRAS in its active state and blocking downstream signaling that drives tumor growth.
