Greek medical associations seek delay for Digital Repository rollout

The Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS), alongside the Medical Associations of Athens and Piraeus and the Panhellenic Association of Medical Diagnostic Centers, is calling for a postponement of the full implementation of the Digital Repository of Examinations. While the mandatory rollout is currently scheduled for September 1, 2026, medical bodies are requesting a delay until January 1, 2027.

This digital repository is intended to create a unified database for managing diagnostic test results, replacing paper-based records. However, medical professionals express concern that the current timeline does not allow for sufficient technical preparation, testing, and training. A critical issue is the link between the mandatory entry of results into the system and the reimbursement of healthcare providers by EOPYY.

Key concerns include the need for finalized technical specifications from IDIKA, the interoperability of laboratory information systems, and the potential for technical failures during the transition. The proposed three-month extension from October to December 2026 would be used for pilot operations, system testing, and professional training to ensure a secure and smooth transition without jeopardizing provider reimbursements.
