Greek medical associations dispute Digital Repository
Overview
Medical associations in Greece are protesting the mandatory registration of diagnostic test results into a new Digital Repository due to technical and financial concerns.
The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) initially demanded an immediate suspension of the mandate, citing deficiencies in connecting laboratory systems with the IDIKA platform and risks to data integrity. ISA President G. Patoulis emphasized that “no new procedure can be implemented without first ensuring technical readiness, functionality, and the substantial informing of the people called upon to implement it.” The ISA proposed a working group and a suspension of entries until technical readiness is confirmed to prevent unjustified payment cuts or reimbursement delays.
Following these concerns, the Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS) requested a postponement of the full implementation, proposing to move the start date from September 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. While supporting the digital transition, the PIS argued that the final months of 2026 should be utilized for finalizing technical specifications, conducting pilot operations, and training professionals to avoid the financial risks associated with the current schedule.
