Pantanal initiatives focus on women's roles in conservation and culture

In Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, various initiatives are highlighting the intersection of culture, women's leadership, and environmental conservation in the Pantanal and other Brazilian biomes.

The Encontro Mulheres Interbiomas 2026 is bringing together women from Brazil's five biomes—Cerrado, Caatinga, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, and Pampa—to discuss income generation and nature conservation. Organized by Cáritas Germany in partnership with several networks including Ecoa, the event aims to strengthen socio-biodiversity productive chains and support women-led businesses. The project supports Brazil's goals for zero deforestation and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 by recognizing the role of local communities in conservation.

Additionally, the documentary ‘4 Luas Pantaneiras’, directed by Ana Carla Loureiro, will be screened for residents of the Asilo São João Bosco. The film follows four women from different Pantanal regions, focusing on themes of strength, dreams, and resistance. The screening is part of a cultural program aimed at providing social and emotional engagement for the elderly residents through cinema and shared memories of the region.
