Pantelleria: Two men reported for illegal waste burning and failure to remediate

Carabinieri Forestali officers in Pantelleria have reported two men following an investigation into illegal waste management in the Scauri area. Authorities intervened at an agricultural site after noticing acrid fumes emanating from a pile of burning material.

While the fire initially appeared to be the routine burning of agricultural clippings and pruning residues, inspections revealed that a 70-year-old local man was using the fire to illicitly dispose of plastic and iron waste, including parts of an iron seat. The man has been charged with the illegal combustion of special waste, which includes a legal obligation to restore the site to its original state.

A second individual was reported to judicial authorities for failing to remediate a polluted site and for ignoring orders to remove a vehicle carcass found on agricultural land within the Pantelleria National Park perimeter.
