PAOK lose 0-1 to Anderlecht in Europa League qualifier, face comeback in Brussels

PAOK were defeated 0‑1 by Belgian side RSC Anderlecht in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League third‑qualifying round at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki on 6 August 2026. Anderlecht opened the scoring after just 17 seconds when Michail Tsvetkovic finished from a quick counter‑attack. PAOK missed a penalty when Giannis Michailidis saw his shot saved, and a later goal by Anestis Mythou was ruled out for off‑side.

The Greek club now must overturn the deficit in the return match in Brussels on 13 August 2026 to reach the Europa League play‑offs. Coach Alekos Lisi said the team remains optimistic, stressing the need to improve early‑game competitiveness and convert chances, and added, “We have faith for the return leg.” He also warned that failure to progress would have financial repercussions, as the play‑off round guarantees higher prize money than the Conference League route.
