Papua armed group kills civilian driver in Jayawijaya

An armed group identified as the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) killed a civilian driver, Aris Sanda, in the Jayawijaya Regency of Papua Pegunungan. The incident occurred on the Wamena–Mbua route, where the victim's vehicle was intercepted and burned.

Reports indicate that before his execution, Sanda was detained and forced to record a statement expressing support for the group's struggle for Papuan independence. Following the forced statement, he was executed and his vehicle was set on fire. Sanda was a local driver known for transporting passengers and distributing essential logistics to remote areas.

Brigadier General Riyanto, Commander of Koops TNI Habema, condemned the violence against the civilian and ordered the evacuation of the body and an intensified search for the perpetrators. The Indonesian military (TNI) has pledged to strengthen security along vital transportation routes to protect civilians from ongoing armed group activities.
