Belém authorities investigate death of entrepreneur after plastic surgery

Authorities in Pará are investigating the death of 29-year-old entrepreneur Giovanna Coelho Gomes, who died approximately 27 hours after undergoing multiple plastic surgery procedures in Belém. The surgeries included abdominoplasty, liposuction, breast implants, and gluteal fat grafting.

Her family has raised allegations of medical negligence, claiming that the surgeon, André Melo, failed to provide adequate post-operative assistance despite the victim's pleas for help. The family reported that she suffered four cardiac arrests before passing away. The Regional Medical Council of Pará (CRM-PA) has announced it will initiate an inquiry to investigate the circumstances of the death and the complaints received via social media.

Legal representatives for the family have requested a necropsy from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) to determine if medical omission or error contributed to the fatality. The Civil Police of Pará are also conducting an investigation into the case.
