Maringá physician found dead in apartment; partner arrested
Gassi Paola de Souza Maria, a 37-year-old physician, was found stabbed to death in her apartment in Maringá, Paraná, on Saturday night. The discovery was made after neighbors heard the constant crying of her eight-month-old baby and alerted the police.
Authorities identified her partner, 25-year-old lawyer João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, as the primary suspect. Romeiro was located in Mandaguari with knife wounds to his neck and reportedly confessed to the killing to witnesses. He was arrested in flagrante for feminicide and remains under police escort at a hospital.
The victim worked at the Nova Aliança Basic Health Unit in Sarandi. Following the incident, the municipality of Marialva announced the exoneration of Romeiro, who served as a legal advisor for the city's Attorney General's Office. The baby was found unharmed and has been taken in by family members.
