Pará prosecutor warns of complex cycles in domestic violence

Prosecutor Magdalena Jaguar of the Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA) has issued an alert regarding the complex cycles of domestic violence that affect women of all ages, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. During the ‘Agosto Lilás’ awareness month, Jaguar noted that victims are increasingly younger due to earlier relationship starts, while elderly women also remain vulnerable.

A significant concern highlighted is the tendency for victims to withdraw protection or return to abusive relationships after seeking help.

Beyond physical aggression, abuse often manifests through silent psychological tactics. These include progressive isolation from friends and family, financial control, excessive jealousy, constant monitoring of social media, and emotional manipulation designed to undermine a victim's self-esteem. Recognizing these subtle signs is considered a fundamental step in breaking the cycle of abuse.
