Paraíba’s Curimataú region opens Brazil’s first goat‑milk powder plant

On Friday, a ceremony in Casserengue, Curimataú, Paraíba marked the launch of the state’s first goat‑milk powder processing plant, the first of its kind in the Brazilian Northeast and claimed to be the first such facility in Latin America’s family‑farm sector. The plant, built by the cooperative Coopac (Cooperativa de Produção e Comercialização do Curimataú Paraibano) under its Nutrilê brand, will process about 45,000 litres of goat milk per day.

The R$5.08 million project, financed by the federal, state and municipal governments and a R$1.5 million investment from the state, is expected to benefit roughly 390 families across 16 municipalities, creating jobs, supplying school meals and supporting food security. Deputy federal legislator Ruy Carneiro, who helped keep the cooperative’s operations running during the dairy crisis, announced the initiative and the provision of a water‑truck to aid producers.
