Paradip Port berths first Capesize vessel and expands infrastructure

The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has achieved a major operational milestone by successfully berthing its first Capesize vessel, the MV Mineral Kwangyang, at Western Dock-1. The 292-metre vessel, carrying 152,702 MT of coking coal from Hay Point, Australia, utilized a 16.5-metre draft, demonstrating the port’s enhanced deep-draft vessel handling capabilities.

In conjunction with this achievement, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated seven infrastructure projects valued at Rs 427.80 crore. These projects focus on navigation, connectivity, safety, sustainability, and community development, further establishing the port's 18.5-metre deep-draft capability.

Additionally, concession agreements were signed for three mechanization projects worth Rs 1,580.36 crore. These initiatives are intended to improve cargo handling efficiency and reduce vessel turnaround times, strengthening Paradip's role as a significant maritime gateway for eastern India.
