Paradip Port infrastructure and capacity expansion
Overview
Paradip Port in Odisha has undergone significant infrastructure expansion to enhance its maritime capabilities. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated several projects totaling Rs 427.80 crore, which include a Rs 352 crore capital dredging project designed to establish an 18.5-metre deep-draft capability. Other developments include a three-lane bridge, an advanced vessel traffic management system, and piped natural gas infrastructure for the port township.
To further improve operational efficiency, concession agreements were signed for three mechanization projects valued at Rs 1,580.36 crore. Following these investments, the port achieved a major milestone by successfully berthing its first Capesize vessel, the MV Mineral Kwangyang, which was carrying coking coal from Australia.
