Paragominas and Pará de Minas host major regional sports tournaments in Brazil
Paragominas opened the XV Jogos Abertos do Pará (JOAPA) with a ceremony that welcomed around 800 athletes from nine municipalities in the state. The multi‑sport competition, organized by the Pará state government and the city hall, features basketball, futsal, beach soccer, volleyball, handball and table tennis, and runs over several days as the municipality serves as the regional sports hub.
In Pará de Minas, the sixth edition of the Copa América de Escolas Oficiais of América‑MG took place, gathering roughly 750 children and adolescents aged 7‑15 from schools across Minas Gerais. The tournament is a primary scouting platform for the club’s youth academy, with technical observers seeking future talents for the professional ranks. The event also boosted local tourism, drawing athletes, families, and officials to the city.
Both events underscore the role of regional sports competitions in promoting youth development, community integration, and economic activity in their respective Brazilian municipalities.
