Paraguay and Brazil Complete Physical Link of Bioceanic Bridge
Paraguay and Brazil finished the final concrete work that physically joined the two halves of the Bioceanic Bridge on the night of Wednesday‑Thursday, sealing a 1,294‑metre structure that connects Carmelo Peralta with Puerto Murtinho over the Paraguay River. The project, financed by Itaipú Binacional at a cost of more than US$100 million and overseen by Paraguay's Ministry of Public Works and Communications, is a key segment of the broader Bioceanic Corridor that aims to link the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through a strategic road network involving Argentina and Chile. An official inauguration is planned for 23 July, with presidents Santiago Peña and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expected to attend. The bridge is expected to strengthen regional trade, tourism and transport, and will feature a digital monitoring system for long‑term safety. Workers celebrated the milestone, with operator Mariano Sosa sharing his personal pride and recounting how the project mirrored his own cross‑border family story, underscoring the bridge's symbolic and economic significance for both nations.
