Brazil‑Paraguay Bioceanic Bridge Near Completion, Corridor G
Overview
The 1,294‑metre International Bioceanic Bridge across the Paraguay River, linking Porto Murtinho (Brazil) and Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay), entered its final construction phase after the last concrete slab was installed in late July 2026. Work now focuses on sealing, paving, lighting, signage and safety barriers.
Brazil still must build a 13.1 km access road from BR‑267 to the bridge, an effort estimated at roughly R$ 250 million that is not yet budgeted and is projected for completion in 2027. Paraguay is paving a 3.8 km connector to highway PY‑15, expected to be finished by November 2026. The bridge project, financed in part by the Itaipú Binacional consortium, totals about US$ 103 million (R$ 472 million) and is about 38 % complete. Customs integration and further road upgrades on both sides remain pending.
Parallel to the bridge works, Paraguay is advancing the broader Bioceanic Corridor. Construction is under way on a 40‑hectare logistics park near the intersection of the Ruta Transchaco and the corridor in the Filadelfia district of Boquerón. The park will host more than 280 lots and shared facilities such as truck parking, AI‑driven security, a 40,000‑cubic‑metre water reservoir, fiber‑optic links and power, with the first phase slated for completion within a year.
Paraguayan industry representatives are emphasizing the corridor’s potential to attract investment, link the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, and eventually integrate Bolivia, thereby shortening transport times and expanding market access for the region’s interior.
