Paraguay celebrates Guarania music heritage
Paraguay is celebrating the Week of Guarania, a series of cultural events honoring the 101st anniversary of the musical genre created by José Asunción Flores. The celebrations follow the genre's inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The programming includes various musical performances across Asunción. The National Popular Music Orchestra (ONAMP) will perform a tribute concert at the Port of Asunción Cultural Center. Other scheduled activities feature the National Symphony Orchestra's Folk Ensemble at the National Congress Library and the Municipal Chamber Orchestra of Asunción at Plaza José Asunción Flores.
In addition to musical tributes, the 37th National Dance Contest features “La Guarania en Movimiento.” This specific competition challenges dancers and choreographers to translate the musical and lyrical essence of Guarania into corporal language, requiring choreographies to maintain coherence with the musical themes.
