Paraguay exports first 21 tons of watermelon to Uruguay
Paraguay has completed its first export of watermelon to Uruguay, shipping 21,000 kilograms produced in Guajayvi, San Pedro department.
The operation was conducted under a work plan for exporting fresh cucurbit fruits, which utilizes an Integrated Risk Mitigation Measure System for Paraguayan products destined for Uruguay. Technical staff from the National Service of Quality, Plant and Seed Health (Senave) inspected and supervised the shipment to ensure compliance with phytosanitary conditions, quality, and safety parameters required for international trade.
Carmen Berni, the technical general director of Senave, stated that opening the Uruguayan market provides new commercial opportunities for the Paraguayan fruit sector. The successful shipment establishes the necessary conditions for future watermelon exports to this market, provided producers continue to meet the established sanitary protocols.
