Paraguayan agricultural export expansion

Overview

Paraguay has achieved new milestones in agricultural exports through the shipment of fresh produce to international markets.

In early October, the country completed its first export of watermelon to Uruguay, shipping 21,000 kilograms from the San Pedro department. The operation was supervised by the National Service of Quality, Plant and Seed Health (Senave) to ensure compliance with phytosanitary and safety standards. Senave technical director Carmen Berni noted that this opening provides new commercial opportunities for the Paraguayan fruit sector.

By late October, Paraguay expanded its reach by completing a shipment of 28,000 kilograms of tomatoes to Brazil. Originating from the Caaguazú department, this shipment followed three years of tomato export activity that included previous shipments to Uruguay. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock provided technical support to ensure the produce met international quality standards, a move expected to increase income for rural families.
