Paraguay exports surge 25% to US$12.1 billion

Paraguay has experienced a significant surge in exports, with total sales reaching US$12,133.7 million from January through July 2026. This represents a 25.2% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP). This growth has shifted the nation's trade balance from a US$462.9 million deficit to a US$679.1 million surplus.

Soybean shipments were a primary driver of this growth, totaling US$2,648.6 million, an increase of nearly 50%. Additionally, soybean oil and meal contributed approximately US$432 million each. While registered exports rose by 20.5% and maquila factory goods increased by 32.1%, other sectors saw declines, including beef exports, which fell 7.4%, and electricity export volumes, which dropped 19.3%. Argentina remains the largest buyer of Paraguayan goods.

In tandem with these economic shifts, the BCP and the National Institute of Statistics (INE) are working to update Paraguay's economic measurement methods. Through the Project for Changing the Base Year and Implementing National Accounts by Institutional Sectors (CABSI), authorities aim to create more precise statistics that reflect the country's current productive structure, including technological integration and changing consumption patterns.
