Paraguay agricultural and export economic trends

Overview

Paraguay has seen significant developments in its agricultural and trade sectors. Between 2020 and 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock reported that family-farm producers generated over 670 billion guaraníes through domestic sales. This growth was attributed to expanded direct-sale channels, public procurement, and the “Hambre Cero” food-security program.

By the first seven months of 2026, the nation experienced a broader surge in total exports, reaching US$12.1 billion. This 25.2% year-on-year increase shifted the trade balance from a deficit to a US$679.1 million surplus. Soybean shipments served as a primary driver, increasing by nearly 50%. While soybean and maquila factory goods grew, other sectors such as beef and electricity exports saw declines. To better reflect these shifts, authorities are working to update economic measurement methods through the CABSI project.
