Paraguay livestock sector faces challenges in technical extension

Veterinary advisor Jorge Ovando has identified a significant gap in Paraguay’s livestock sector, noting that the primary challenge is not a lack of technology, but rather a lack of agricultural extension services. He stated that small and medium-sized producers struggle to access the technical knowledge and management tools already available to them.

Data indicates low adoption of basic reproductive efficiency practices in Paraguay. Currently, less than 15% of registered establishments perform pregnancy diagnoses, fewer than 20% of cows are part of seasonal breeding systems, and only between 5% and 10% of the national herd undergoes insemination.
